NP/PA – Neurosurgery ICU

As an Advanced Practice Provider, you'll play an integral role in our inpatient and ambulatory care teams by providing high-quality, cost-effective care to patients.

We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to:
  • Provide care to adult clinical and research patients on the Neurosurgery Critical Care unit, with flexibility to cover the Neurosurgery General Care unit when needed.
  • Work in collaboration with faculty, residents, fellows, surgeons, and nursing staff to provide on-going patient care and management.
  • Perform routine clinical procedures independently as outlined in practice agreements/scope of practice including, but not limited to, the following: minor invasive procedures (e.g. sutures, blood draws, lumbar punctures), pump adjustments, adjustment, application, and removal of spinal stabilization devices, reprogramming of CSF shunts, and shunt taps.
Minimum –
If Nurse Practitioner:
Master’s or Doctorate’s degree from accredited Nursing Program.

If Physician Assistant:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from accredited PA Program.

Work Experience:
Preferred - Two years of relevant clinical experience dealing with patients with neurological conditions preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:
Minimum -
If Nurse Practitioner: Active RN and APNP license in State of Wisconsin AND active board certification as a NP in Acute Care only (Adult or Adult/Gerontology will be considered only if previous ICU experience).
If Physician Assistant: Active PA license in State of Wisconsin AND active PA board certification.
All Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant applicants must have: Active DEA license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire AND CPR certification and advanced life support certifications if relevant to practice area (ACLS, PALS, NRP).

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
Physical Requirements:
Medium: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/and or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to wear a 10 pound lead garment for prolonged periods.

Work Schedule:
100% FTE. Core hours of 7:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday with possible night and weekend work, as needed.
