The Nurse Resident systematically and continuously assists in the collection and assessment of data in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide therapeutic care for the patient and/or family.  He/she assists in performing all required elements of a nursing assessment including but not limited to physical examination, assessment of readiness to learn, psychosocial assessment, functional assessment and utilization of patient/family specific assessment scales as required.  


The Nurse Resident is an active member of the multidisciplinary team and assists in the collaboration in the development, execution and evaluation of the multidisciplinary plan of care or critical pathway. The Nurse Resident considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering care. 


The Nurse Resident’s decisions and actions on behalf of patients are determined in an ethical manner. 

 

The Nurse Resident assists in establishing goals and strategies for meeting the discharge or continuing care needs of the patient, family, and/or other care provider. The Nurse Resident provides care in collaboration with other nursing staff members in accordance with nurse practice acts and the professional nursing role.

 

The Nurse Resident utilizes research findings in his/her practice.  He/she demonstrates knowledge of and participates in Improving Organizational Performance activities.  The nurse resident acquires and maintains knowledge in nursing practice and assumes responsibility for the professional development of self. 

 

The Post-Baccalaureate Nurse Residency Program at UW Health is part of a national initiative developed by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and Vizient.





Work Schedule90/100% FTE, 8/12 hour shifts, Day/Evening or Day/Night rotation with weekend rotation. Hours could vary to assist with the operational needs of each department.

Education:
Minimum - Baccalaureate accredited degree in nursing within the last six-months. GPA of 3.0 or above.

Licenses & Certifications:
Minimum - Permanent Registered Nurse license in the State of Wisconsin prior to start date. 
CPR certification.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Excellent communication skills.

Physical Requirements:
Medium: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/and or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
