The Heart and Vascular Procedure Center (Cath Lab) is a dynamic, technologically advanced procedural area where nurses practice with autonomy to provide quality care to a wide variety of patients undergoing complex cardiovascular procedures.

The Registered Nurse in the Cardiovascular Lab:

  • Is an integral member of a talented multidisciplinary team working together to deliver quality care to patients of all ages, from neonatal to geriatric, undergoing cardiovascular procedures from diagnostic cardiac catheterization to emergent STEMI (heart attack) patients.
  • Has a strong critical care background and is ready to expand their skill set to include a specialty in cardiovascular procedural nursing.
  • Practices in an environment that focuses on patient- and family- centered care.
  • Is highly engaged in acquiring new skills and integrating evidence based nursing practices into the unit culture.
  • Participates in shared governance, with a unit based council to help support and drive quality improvement initiatives and lead practice change. 
  • The Cath Lab has seven procedure rooms including two electrophysiology (EP) labs, two coronary labs, one peripheral vascular lab, one multi-procedure lab, and one pediatric hybrid procedure lab in the American Family Children’s Hospital. It also includes a 14 bed Pre/post care area.



Minimum -
Preferred - BSN

Work Experience:

Minimum – Two (2) years of recent nursing experience in a Cardiovascular ICU, Critical Care ICU or Emergency Department and previous moderate sedation experience
One (1) year of recent nursing experience in a Cardiovascular ICU, Critical Care ICU or Emergency Department and at least one (1) year of cardiovascular or med/surg nursing experience and previous moderate sedation experience.
One (1) year of recent Cardiovascular Laboratory and/or Electrophysiology Laboratory nursing experience and previous moderate sedation experience.
Preferred – Cardiovascular Laboratory and/or Electrophysiology Laboratory nursing experience. Previous Nursing experience with an emphasis on cardiovascular patient care.

Licenses and Certifications:
Minimum – Registration as a professional nurse in the State of Wisconsin. BLS and ACLS certification.
Preferred – CCRN, CVN, PCCN, RCIS

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Knowledge/experience related to hemodynamic monitoring and titration of vasoactive medication infusions.
Capable of wearing lead aprons for extended periods of time.

Physical Requirements: 
Medium: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds. 

Work Schedule: 
Monday – Friday, 8 or 10 hour shifts between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm. Rotated on call after hours, Weekends and holidays. 30 minute response time required from pager activation to ready to receive patient.
