The Emergency Department (ED) Nurse Navigator functions as a central point of contact for coordinating and facilitating the safe transfer of patients from the University Hospital ED to another hospital location once the determination has been made by physicians that the patient is to be admitted. The ED Nurse Navigator collaborates with the patient/family, physicians, nurses, Case Managers and members of our multidisciplinary team to ensure a smooth and timely transition to their destination hospital which is one of our affiliated facilities – Unity Point Meriter or The American Center. The ED Nurse Navigator must have strong communication and multi-tasking skills to facilitate the communication between the Access Centers and physicians in order to coordinate the patient through-put and improve patient flow to the most appropriate location and level of care.

Education:
Preferred – BSN degree
 
Work Experience:
Minimum - Three (3) years relevant clinical nursing experience.
Preferred - Previous
Nursing Coordinator, Access Center or Case Management experience
 
Licenses and Certifications:
Minimum - RN licensed in the state of Wisconsin. CPR/BLS
Preferred - Emergency Department or Nurse Case Manager
Certification

Physical Requirements:

Work Schedule: Hours between 1100-2300. Weekend and holiday rotation required. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.
