UW Health’s Hiring Process

Step 1: View UW Health Opportunities
Visit our Careers Website to view the current opportunities offered by UW Health. If the right opportunity is not available, sign up for our job alerts to receive email notifications of new job openings.
 
​Step 2: Apply
If you meet the requirements for the position, we encourage you to apply by submitting an online application. Please fill out the application in its entirety. The more information you provide, the better our team can assess your qualifications. Including a resume and cover letter is strongly preferred, but not required.
 
After submitting your application, an email will be sent to you confirming receipt. If you did not receive an email, make sure you selected “submit” on your application or check your junk/spam mail.
 
Step 3: Application Review
UW Health Recruitment will review your application for the minimum and preferred qualifications of the position. Recruitment will contact top candidates to schedule a 30 to 60 minute phone interview. The phone interview will allow our team to further assess your qualifications. Candidates selected to receive a phone interview will generally hear from UW Health within 1-2 weeks of submitting an application.
 
If you are not being considered for the position, you will receive an email notification.
 
Step 4: Interview
Top candidates will be contacted to schedule an interview with the hiring manager. Subsequent interviews may be required.
 
If you are no longer being considered for the position, you will receive an email notification.
 
Step 5: References
All candidates must receive positive professional references prior to starting employment at UW Health.
 
UW Health uses an online reference checking system to seek and deliver professional references. Candidates should be prepared to enter contact information for four references, including their email addresses. Two of those references need to be supervisors or managers, one of which needs to be current/recent.
 
Step 6: Offer
UW Health Recruitment will verbally extend an offer to the top candidate. Once the offer has been accepted, a start date will be established and a formal offer letter will be emailed to the candidate.
 
Step 7: Onboarding
The recruiter will schedule a time for the new hire to speak with one of our Recruitment Specialists to review all of the steps leading up to the new hire’s first day.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my application was submitted?
Once you submit your application, you will receive an email notification. There are three reasons you may have not received the notification.


1) The submit button at the end of your application was not selected.
2) The email was sent to your junk/spam folder.
3) Your email address was incorrectly entered on your application.
 
Who do I contact if I’m having technical difficulties completing my application?
Contact Human Resources at 608-263-6500 for assistance.
 
How do I check the status of my application? Sign into your UW Health Careers account and select the “My Applications” tab to view the job status for your application(s).
 
What is the benefits package?
UW Health is comprised of two employers, University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics and University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation.

How do I find out the rate or salary for a position?
Contact Human Resources at 608-263-6500 to inquire about the wage for a specific opening. If you are selected to participate in a phone interview, the recruiter will discuss pay expectations during this interview. Do I have to pay for parking? If the position is located at University Hospital (600 Highland Ave) or areas surrounding the hospital, you may be required to pay for parking. There are three parking options available for employees:

1) Discounted Madison Metro bus pass provided by UW Health.

2) Park and Ride pass available for purchase near the main hospital, which provides shuttle service to and from your vehicle.

3) Individual parking permits are available for purchase for one of the surrounding lots near University Hospital.

When can I transfer to another department after being hired?

Employees are required to remain in their roles for at least six months before being considered for another role within UW Health.

Can I apply for multiple jobs?
Yes, you are welcome to apply for multiple jobs. However, please ensure you meet the minimum qualifications of the job and have a sincere interest in the position.

I can’t remember my username or password to sign into your career site?
If you forgot your username, click the “Forgot your user name?” link on our careers site sign in page. You will be asked to input your email address to validate your account. Once validated, the system will give you your user name.
 
If you forgot your password, click the “Forgot your password?” link on our careers site sign in page. You will be asked to input your user name and email address. Then an email will be sent to you with instructions on how to reset your password.
 
What if the opportunity I’m looking for is not available?
We encourage you to sign up for our job alerts to receive email notifications for when the right opportunity does come available. We also recommend filling out a general profile, so your information is in our system for our recruitment team to view and reach out to you when a future job becomes open that you are qualified for.

When can I expect to hear back on my application?
The application process can take two to four weeks from the time you submit your application. You can also check the status of your application on our career website.
