General Surgeon, Acute Care

Position highlights

Join an expanding group of general surgeons, acute care surgeons and Advanced Practice Providers at a Community Level II Trauma Center in northern Illinois. UW in northern Illinois is recruiting full trauma and emergency general surgeons.

  • Full-time position is 14 days per month in one or two blocks that include weekday and weekend call shifts
  • 100% acute care/trauma practice, no elective practice
  • Cover trauma alerts and EGS consultations
  • Round on 30-bed ICU, step-down unit and medical/surgical floors
  • On-site clinic is covered by APP and supported by elective general surgeons
  • Advanced Practice Provider coverage 7 a.m.–5 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m.–3 p.m. weekends, with on-call APP for OR assisting
  • Three Da Vinci Xi robots with 24/7 access for acute care surgery
  • More than 900 trauma and EGS cases per year
  • ED volume: 72,000 per year
  • Epic EMR
  • Call response time within 30 minutes to hospital

Qualifications

  • MD or DO; BC or BE in general surgery, ATLS, ACLS  
  • Active Illinois medical license and DEA license, or the ability to apply for such licenses prior to hire
