Audiology externships and third-year practicums

We’re excited to offer aspiring audiologists the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop clinical skills alongside our team of seasoned professionals.

Whether you’re an externship student seeking to bridge the gap between theory and practice or a third-year practicum student ready to refine your clinical expertise, we have a program tailored to your needs.

Externships

1 S Park St Medical Center and Eastpark Medical Center (adult)

  • Acceptance of one extern annually. Supervisor TBD.
  • Full time, 40 hours per week, hours will vary between 7 a.m.–6 p.m. daily
    • Might have option for four 10-hour days or five 8-hour days
  • Preference for student with desire to engage in audiological diagnostic and rehabilitative services provided at 1 S Park St Medical Center and Eastpark Medical Center, specifically clinical diagnostics with ENT and primary care providers and amplification/hearing aids.
  • Preference for a student with a strong desire to work in a fast-paced setting
  • Planned and unexpected absences to be discussed with supervisor

University Hospital (adult)

  • Acceptance of one extern annually. Supervisor TBD.
  • Full time, 40 hours per week — half dedicated research each week. Hours are generally 7 a.m.–6 p.m., though they might vary dependent on clinic needs
    • Might have option for four 10-hour days or five 8-hour days
  • Preference for student with desire to engage in all aspects of adult audiological diagnostic and rehabilitative services, including vestibular, amplification, implantable auditory devices and electrophysiology.
  • Planned and unexpected absences to be discussed with supervisor

American Family Children’s Hospital (pediatric)

  • Acceptance of one extern annually. Supervisors TBD.
  • Full time, 40 hours per week, hours might vary between 7 a.m.–6 p.m. daily
    • Might have option for four 10-hour days or five 8-hour days
  • Preference for student with desire to engage in all aspects of pediatric audiological diagnostic and rehabilitative services, including amplification, implantable auditory devices and electrophysiology.
  • Planned and unexpected absences to be discussed with supervisor

Third-year practicums

1 S Park St Medical Center and Eastpark Medical Center

  • Acceptance of two students annually, one in the fall semester and one in the spring semester. Supervisor TBD.
  • Two days per week, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with documentation and preparation that might occur outside of clinic hours.
  • Preference for student with desire to engage in audiological diagnostic and rehabilitative services provided at 1 S Park St Medical Center
  • Planned and unexpected absences to be discussed with supervisor

University Hospital

  • Acceptance of one student fall semester and one student spring semester annually (one semester spent at University Hospital and opposite at American Family Children’s Hospital). Supervisor TBD.
  • Two days per week, generally 8 a.m.–5 p.m., with documentation and preparation that might occur outside of clinic hours.
  • Preference for student with desire to engage in all aspects of adult audiological diagnostic and rehabilitative services, including vestibular, amplification, implantable auditory devices and electrophysiology.
  • Planned and unexpected absences to be discussed with supervisor.

American Family Children’s Hospital

  • Acceptance of one student fall semester and one student spring semester annually (one semester spent at University Hospital and opposite at American Family Children’s Hospital). Supervisor TBD.
  • Two days per week, generally 8 a.m.–5 p.m., with documentation and preparation that might occur outside of clinic hours.
