Q: Will the resident rotate through all the areas of practice?

A: Yes. The resident will rotate through all major practice settings with a focus on inpatient, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient care and Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND).

Q: What will a typical week look like?

A: A resident will practice in multiple settings in any given week. There will be hours devoted to inpatient and outpatient care each week; the resident will also get to experience Birth to 3 and school-based therapy, as well as participate in various multidisciplinary clinics throughout the year. Additionally, the resident will spend time as a lab assistant and deliver a lecture for the Pediatric courses at UW–Madison’s Physical Therapy Program. The resident will also receive designated time for mentoring as well as didactic educational hours each week.

Q: How will mentoring be addressed?

A: Clinical mentors will be assigned in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. There will be dedicated mentoring hours assigned each week for one-on-one mentoring.

Q: How will didactic coursework be covered?

A: Didactic course work will be covered through independent readings, clinical education content and lectures. Residents will be expected to complete the didactic course work outside of their work hours. They will be assigned at least one hour each week to meet with one or more faculty members to discuss the topic and deepen the resident’s understanding through a resident-led discussion.

Q: Will the resident be required to work on weekends?

A: Yes, there will be a weekend component as part of your clinical hours, including one major holiday weekend.

Q: Are there research opportunities?

A: The resident will be given an opportunity to complete quality improvement projects, based on the interest of the resident.

A candidate should demonstrate the desire to deepen their knowledge and experience in Pediatric Physical Therapy. They should have a strong academic background and some experience demonstrating an interest in Pediatric Physical Therapy.
