PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) Residency Northern Illinois

Program summary

The PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) Residency Program at UW Health Northern Illinois is designed to build upon PGY1 residency graduates’ competence in the delivery of patient-centered care, allowing them to excel in a high-level leadership role in an institutional pharmacy setting.

Pharmacy administration at SwedishAmerican oversees pharmacy staff in multiple areas, including: inpatient hospital, outpatient retail, ambulatory clinics, specialty pharmacy, anticoagulation clinic, home infusion, regional cancer center, central fill pharmacy and rural hospital site (in Belvidere, Ill.).

Residents will work collaboratively with the SwedishAmerican Pharmacy leadership team in leading process improvement projects, providing patient care in a collaborative practice clinic, chair subcommittees of the P&T committee and manage human resources and financial resources to develop advanced leadership skills. Resident experiences will be tailored to meet individual goals and expectations.

The goal of this HSPAL PGY2 residency is to develop the pharmacy leaders of tomorrow. As a member of the pharmacy enterprise leadership team, the resident will receive extensive training in all key pharmacy department administrative areas to allow them to be exceptionally qualified for a variety of clinical or operational leadership positions upon completion of the residency.
